The Haldi
February 26, 2026
12:00 PM–2:00 PM
The Iono
Vonarstræti 3, Reykjavík, 101, Iceland
Attire: Guests are encouraged to wear light, festive colors such as yellow, white, beige, or other soft tones that reflect the spirit of the celebration. Traditional Pakistani or South Asian outfits (shalwar kameez, lehenga, sari, etc.) are warmly welcomed but not required. Daytime attire.
The Haldi Ceremony is a joyful pre-wedding tradition in South Asian culture where family and friends apply a turmeric paste to the bride and groom. The ritual is believed to bless the couple with happiness, prosperity, and a radiant glow as they begin their married life. Beyond its symbolism, it’s a lighthearted and playful event filled with laughter, music, and vibrant energy.
Because turmeric can stain, we recommend avoiding heavy or delicate fabrics - keep it light, easy, and celebratory.
The Nikkah
Thursday, February 26, 2026
5:00 PM–6:00 PM
The Iono
Vonarstræti 3, Reykjavík, 101, Iceland
Attire: Guests are encouraged to wear formal or semi-formal attire in keeping with the significance of the occasion. Traditional South Asian or Pakistani outfits (shalwar kameez, lehenga, sari, etc.) are very welcome, though not required. Dresses, suits, or other elegant attire in tasteful colors are equally appropriate. Please refrain from wearing red.
The Nikkah Ceremony is the Islamic marriage contract, where the bride and groom formally commit to one another in the presence of witnesses and an officiant. It is both a sacred and celebratory moment, marking the official beginning of married life. The ceremony is usually followed by prayers, blessings, and time for family and friends to congratulate the couple.
